the wife for her husband. Women have a great calling. It should be exciting and challenging to fulfill that
special role.
The woman is comparable to the man.
1 Corinthians 11:8-9 “For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither
was man created for woman, but woman for man.”
Genesis 2:18-23 “The LORD God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a
helper suitable for him.’ Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild
animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would
name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So
the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into
a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed
up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken
out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my
bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of
man.”
The woman is from the man.
1 Corinthians 11:8 “For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.”
The woman is for the man.
1 Corinthians 11:9 “Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.”
The woman is the completer to the man. (see Gen. 2:18-23 above)
The helper prioritizes her energies to help her husband. The key priority is her husband, not her work,
ministry, or children. The key recipient of her help is her husband. The key evaluator of the effectiveness of
her help is her husband. Florence Littauer wrote, “You women may not like the fact that God made us to be
helpmates for our men, but that's what God says, and He means business. We have to ask ourselves, ‘am I
really a helper to my husband, or would he be better off without me?’”
Your husband could hire someone to make his meals, clean the house, wash the clothes, and take care of
the children. Or he could do those things himself. But he cannot hire someone to be the kind of helper God
has designed you to be for him.
What does God want to accomplish through your husband that requires your help and support of him?
Someday you might say, “I had no idea he could accomplish that,” or “I was too busy to help him to
accomplish that”.
A wife is to be a help in several areas:
1. The helper is the divinely designated worker of the home.
