BARGELLO: Light jumper? It doesn’t look very light to me.
MINIMAX: No, not that kind of light. This is a machine that can
jump onto light waves and travel instantaneously into outer space.
BARGELLO: Oh, I see. That’s how we’re going to find the other
Extreme, the largest thing there is, and get a picture of it. Well, shall
we depart?
MINIMAX: Okay. Let’s get in. (they get in) Now, here’s how it works:
you just shine the headlight in the direction you want to go, and the
machine will jump on the beam. When you want to stop, turn it off.
BARGELLO: That sounds easy enough! The Great Bargello sets off
on another triumphant adventure! (turns on light)
SCENE 2: Outer space
BARGELLO: (effects; shuts off light, barrier comes down) That ought to do
it. The Earth and the Sun are really far away now. This must be the
edge of the cosmos. Let me just poke a hole in it so we can get a
picture of it from the other side. (pushes through) Okay, Minimax, you
can bring the camera over here. Whoops! Wait a minute! I can see
some lights out there. What does that mean?
MINIMAX: Come back here, Great Bargello. This is just the edge of
the solar system. It’s not the biggest thing there is. Those are stars
you’re looking at; probably the Milky Way.
BARGELLO: (gets in) That’s too bad. Then, let’s jump out to the
edge of the Milky Way. That won’t take too long, will it?
MINIMAX: No, no time at all. Just shine the light over there, will
you? (effects)
BARGELLO: (shuts off light and barrier appears) Here we are! (gets out)
Come on, Minimax, let’s get this over with. All this talk about the
Milky Way is making me hungry. (pushes through) Well, come on,
Minimax. What are you waiting for?
MINIMAX: Look behind you, Great Bargello.
