The window was closed, and the female in heat did not move an
inch. Levi trotted up the lawn and joined in the serenade. He, too,
was smitten, losing his usual aloof detachment. Billy Bob stopped
singing suddenly when it dawned on him that he was not alone.
“Get out of here!” he snarled, tail snapping like a bullwhip. “I
found her—you let me do all the dirty work, and then you show up,
ready to beat my time with this kitten!”
