The combined forces worked; the furry princess peered out at the
vocal trio and slowly winked both eyes. Encouraged, the tomcats
redoubled their efforts, yowling with great feeling and at high
volume. Then she disappeared from sight.
Levi Katz imagined her rubbing against the legs of her human
servants, pushing them toward the front door and freedom. Billy Bob
Cat’s mind flashed between the fading image in the window and
plans of ousting his rivals. Eddie Puss, anticipating pain regardless of
the evening’s outcome, thought only of revenge. The cacophony rose
to a crescendo.
