Just then Eddie Puss stumbled through the rhododendrons. “Rip
your heart out!” he howled, and fell on Levi’s flanks, kicking and
biting.
The startled black cat twisted away frantically, hissing and spitting.
“Back off, man! You’ve got no reason to ambush me! Stop it or I’ll
slice off your ear!”
Billy Bob smirked at this discomfiture of his rival—but his
expression changed when the wild-eyed calico turned his wrath on
the other tomcat in his field of vision.
“Tear your face off!” screamed Eddie, and sprang at the albino’s
throat. Billy Bob knew his adversary: he leaped high in the air and
came down on Eddie’s bad hind leg, clawing at the scar tissue on the
twisted limb. Eddie Puss snarled in rage and pain, and then backed
off, shielding his hindquarters.
