THE PROSPEROUS WAY
MANAGING TIME
I use a system for managing my workday that is borrowed from the legal
profession. In the past, lawyers used a timesheet to track the billable
hours that they spent working on a client’s file. I use the same principle
to create a timesheet that is divided into 30-minute slots to manage my
day. I also prioritize my to-do list on a weekly basis so that I don’t get
side-tracked by minor details or miss tasks that are important to get
done.
I use Microsoft Excel to create my to-do list and timesheet. However, as
I mentioned before, there are a plethora of time management tools and
apps that are available that you can explore. What is important is that
you find your own time management system that you can use
comfortably and consistently. So, think of the following as an example
rather than a template for time management.
PRIORITIZING TASKS
At the beginning of the week, I review the tasks that are outstanding
and use the following chart to prioritize the week ahead. I have one
chart for work tasks and one for personal tasks.
