No More Secrets

I hear his voice at the other end! “Hello?”
Relief fills my heart as words spit out of me like firecrackers.
“It’s me … please … you’ve got to come! You have to come
get me right away! He’s gone crazy. He wants to kill me! Can
you pick me up? He told me he wants to kill me! That he
SHOULD kill me. Please come, please come!”
“Hold on. Just hold on.” Gord’s voice is calm and soothing.
“Now Kelita, slow down.” He pauses for a moment, assured by
the sound of my breath. “Okay, now tell me where you are? It’s
okay, just breathe. Take your time.” Gord is calm. Always calm.
“I’m at a phonebooth on St. Clair. I ran here as fast as I
could.”
“Are you alright?”
“Yes. Yes, I’m fine. I just need to get out of here. Fast. I can’t
let him find me.”
“Okay, just try and calm down. He’s not going to find you.
You’re safe now. You’re going to be okay. I’m going to come and
get you.”
I am hearing his words but I’m not sure I’m comprehending.
