Reason To Sing
Chapter Forty-Six
The Confession
My life has never been this big a mess. My relationship with
my husband is abysmal and my career is beyond frustrating. No
matter how hard I try, I just cannot catch a break. And even
though I love being a new mother and feel privileged to be
at home with Keldon, the recording artist/performer in me is
aching to get back out there.
My work has been in a complete holding pattern with all
these big life changing events. Divorce, new husband, new
house, new baby and now a new manager. I’ve been releasing
singles to radio, but I very much need a new album. In this
business you’re only as hot as your latest release. Radio holds
all the power and you need to keep giving them new music. If
not, you vanish.
But finally, now, there is a breakthrough. I am ecstatic! With
the help of my new manager Val, we’ve secured an independent
record deal, with Sony Music as the distributor. I can’t wait to
record all my new songs, make some videos and be back in the
saddle again.
There is initial talk of using a well-known producer but that’s
not coming together so my record company and management
team decide to hand the producing duties over to Gord. Since
the beginning of our relationship, Gord and I have done a lot
of writing and recording together. But this is a huge step up.
He is now being entrusted with a fair-sized budget and a ton
of responsibility. I believe in him and am thrilled we get to do
this together.
