tapes and CDs with friends and even donated a large sum
towards one of my projects.
In later years, Frankie made homes in both Canada and
the US, still ranching. He’s been married four times and has
never had any children. He currently resides in Australia.
Billy: My dear brother Billy was the youngest of the three
boys. This meant he was caught firmly in the middle of ‘them’
and ‘Vian and me.’ Jimmy and Frankie were always at each
other’s throats and my sister and I were the spoiled little girls
who had the attention of Daddy and Mommy. I think Billy
got lost. He was most certainly the neglected one. Even when
suffering unbearable pain from the excruciating headaches we
now call migraines, poor Billy didn’t get much attention. His
agony was so severe he’d be vomiting and bedridden. I now
believe the inescapable tension in our home manifested itself
physically in my brother.
Just like Frankie, Billy escaped from Canada after
our mother passed away. He made his way through South
America, indulging in large quantities of drugs, alcohol and
some pretty exotic (or would that be erotic?) adventures. He
actually worked as a houseboy for a group of women who
owned (and worked!) a brothel. He also traveled to Southeast
Asia and the Middle East until the bombs started flying in
Beirut.
When Billy finally settled into his work on the oil rigs
he was stationed out of Singapore. This is where he met and
married his wife. They went on to have two children, but the
marriage didn’t last. Billy took full custody of his kids and
moved them back to Canada. He found a job in Calgary and
went on to raise his son and daughter on his own. He never
remarried.
