RECLAIM YOUR DIGITAL GOLD
rapid adoption. In the last chapter, we will discuss the
evolution of the internet from 1.0 to 3.0.
All of these factors contributed to where we are now in
terms of innovation.
Computer hardware improvements gave way to handheld
devices, and creative software development and
distribution gave way to applications and platforms, and
cloud computing, all while continuously improving the
performance and decreasing the size of these devices.
Then came the digital revolution in which computerized
processes increasingly replaced manual ones. This
brought rapid transformation in every area and elevated
aspects of the computer science industry to entirely new
heights. Everything could now be digitized — and it was.
So, everything was in place to focus on data and leverage
it as an asset. The digital transformation gave way to
vast amounts of valuable data as the global population
rapidly embraced technology (like personal computing,
hardware storage and devices, applications, platforms,
and cloud computing, and the Internet), leaving a digital
footprint everywhere they went.
If that wasn’t enough, the recent global (COVID-19)
pandemic forced everyone online and opened up the
virtual world to work, play, entertainment, and education.
So, the marriage of the digital and the semiconductor
chipset is now permanent and co-dependent. In a recent
interview, Intel Corporation CEO Pat Gelsinger said,
“Everything is becoming digital, and everything digital
runs on semiconductors.” (Washington Post Live, 2022).
Intel Corporation is the world’s largest semiconductor
chip manufacturer.
