and success of these new entertainment sources,
according to those in the media and entertainment
          industries.
Big Data has been making waves for a while now,
but it is currently having a significant impact on the
entertainment industry. Utilizing data is the only way
to get a clear picture of customers’ viewing habits to
cater to their specific needs. For example, entertainment
and streaming services companies such as Netflix can
use a customer’s age, location, language, and other
characteristics to change their behavior and keep them
          interested.

          9. Sports and Analytics

I’m a huge sports fan, and I never imagined that sports
and data and analytics would go together, but that’s all
changed now. Nowadays, data is everywhere in sports.
Sports teams are utilizing data in novel ways. Sports
analytics is also a lucrative industry. For example,
although sabremetrics (analytics) has been around
since the 1980s, it really took off with Oakland Athletics
General Manager Billy Beane in the 2000s. Billy Beane
was a former baseball player who was the first person
in sports history to make a roster decision based on
statistical data from a player’s previous performances.
According to Billy Beane, a team’s run total was
determined solely by statistical analysis. Teams with a
high on-base percentage score more runs.

The film Moneyball, directed by Bennett Miller, written
by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, and starring Brad
Pitt, is about Billy Beane’s baseball team (Oakland A’s)
