RECLAIM YOUR DIGITAL GOLD

WHERE DO WE STAND IN RELATION TO
          THE DIVIDE?

This difference manifests itself in a multitude of different
ways, such as between men and women, industrialized
and poor countries, urban and rural areas, and even
countries that border oceans and countries that are
landlocked. In every one of those scenarios, the first
category is faring significantly better than the second.

In some areas, the inequality is so severe that it leads
to unequal education, with some students having little
or no access to equipment. Hardware, software, and
support are in short supply. As a result, teachers should
ensure that they are aware of their students’ use of
technology and the Internet. They should involve parents
in their children’s education and provide students with
additional opportunities to use the Internet at school.
They must pay attention to what works and what does
not work in terms of technology use, stay current on the
latest innovations, and adapt to the students’ needs.
They should also select an age-appropriate device to
improve learning and create engaging lessons that relate
to the digital technology in the classroom. Professional
development, webinars, social media, peer collaboration,
and a willingness to fail can also be beneficial.

However, it is not sufficient to delegate responsibility to
parents and teachers; where possible, governments and
institutions must lead the way in bringing technology
to their country, making it available, and staying current
with changes in order to avoid falling behind.

Information is power, but only those who have access to
          it can tap into it.
