RADICAL LOVE
“Isn’t there another who could steal away your heart?” they ask. Surely
there is, after all this!
It is very evident that the steadfast devotion of this maiden challenges
the brides-to-be, and it has awakened within them a deep awe and
respect for her. She is still trusting in the goodness, kindness, and
faithfulness of her Beloved, despite what the circumstances might wish
to dictate.
Similarly, we too are called to singleness of heart and unwavering faith
in the goodness of God—especially when things do not go our way.
During my years of ministering to others, I have heard repeated stories
of disappointment with God because He has not acted in line with
people's expectations and desires. So many within the Christian faith
only choose God’s way when it corresponds with their way—and this
is the reason why they never reach the spiritual level described here.
Disappointment in God, plainly speaking, is idolatry—because when
we are disappointed, we are actually saying that what we want is better
than what God wants for us. It is usurping the Lordship of Christ in our
hearts, and this blocks the way into the deeper revelation of the nature
of our God.
Sadly, we allow ourselves to be deceived when we choose to substitute
“beloveds” for the One who has the perfect plan for our lives.
So! What are these “beloveds”?
