SESSION 13 : Song Of Songs Chapter 5:9-16 (TPT)
Well, they can be many things: one’s ministry or job; family or
children; popularity with man or prominence; leisure, money, or
pleasure.
The greatest false “beloved” is the self.
However, if we choose to walk in obedience and yield to the Holy
Spirit, the Lord can deal with us. And although it is not always pleasant,
it is for our own good and will result in the advancement of our faith
and the development of a Christ-like character.
“What makes your Beloved better than any other?” they ask her, “and
what is it about Him that makes you ask us to promise you this?” (see
verse 8).
(The Shulamite is really desperate at this point—she is even prepared
to approach less mature Christians than herself for solace. However, as
further reading of the text reveals, they will not be able to help in
finding Him.)
In response to their question, the following verses of the passage are a
passionate and emotional tribute to the One who has clearly captivated
her heart to the exclusion of everything else.
In verse 10, the Shulamite Bride begins to cascade forth from her lips
the incomparable beauty and qualities of her Beloved Bridegroom-
King. It is almost as if she has pressed a “recall” button on the inside
of her, and all that she had encountered in Him up until now has become
a very vivid reality once again.
