SESSION 14 : Song of Songs Chapter 6:1-7 (TPT)
“Even hosts of angels stand in awe of you.”
The key to understanding this verse is found if we compare the New
King James Version (NKJV), which says she is:
“…and terrible as an army with banners.”
The word for terrible in Hebrew is ayom and can also mean to frighten.
The Bridegroom-King explains her position in Him regarding the
enemy.
Our battle is not with flesh and blood in the earthly realm, but against
the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Furthermore, only
victorious armies unfurl banners. She is a victorious warrior-bride who
evokes terror in the enemy camp because her weapons are faith, hope,
love, and the good fruit of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, Jesus’ army
marches under the banner of agape love—and the enemy cannot
counterfeit it.
In verse 5, she is asked to turn her eyes away from Him because the
love, passion, and faithfulness she now exhibits for Him are
overwhelming. The eyes are the windows to our souls. They reveal the
state of our hearts before God and thereby display the truth of who we
are and what we truly think. As the Bridegroom-King looks into her
eyes, He sees what He created her to be in all her glory—and it is very
good.
She cannot yet see what she will become as she continues to journey
into the heart of her Lord, but He can, and it blesses Him immensely.
