RADICAL LOVE
The Shulamite has become a garden of delight for the display of Jesus’
glory and splendour. In The Passion Translation, the latter part of verse
3 says:
“I am fully devoted to my beloved, and my beloved is fully devoted to
me.”
In other versions, we often read verse 3 as:
“I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine.”
I want to make an important point here, and it is this. Regardless of the
translation we read, the fact remains that this verse emphasizes the
necessity of being intentional about knowing our identity in God.
We need to know that we truly are His before we can surrender and
hand our lives over to Him completely. In the case of the Shulamite,
she is now fully convinced that her Beloved dwells within her. She has
had the revelation that she delights His heart and that she belongs to
Him. She concludes with a statement indicating that her intimate
fellowship, yielding, and surrender have brought total confidence in the
truth:
“I have Him fully, and now He fully has me.”
I want you to pause here at this verse and ask the Lord to reveal to you
what this means personally. I did this and was completely overwhelmed
by His love and grace. The tears began to flow as He touched my heart
deeply. I waited, and the words that came to mind were: utmost
security, unchanging devotion towards me, peace and life, health and
