RADICAL LOVE
We are challenged to ask for grace to take us above the satisfaction
levels of average believers and to plant within us a hunger and a thirst
to know Him more. I believe that God is looking for those with this
heart-cry and promises to satisfy it—if we will but persistently ask and
seek.
(See Luke 18:1–8, Matthew 7:7–11, Psalm 37:4–5.)
Interestingly, later in the book, the analogy of love and wine
reappears—but this time, it is Jesus speaking to the Shulamite in
chapter 4, verse 10. He says to her that her love for Him is His finest
wine, and that it is intoxicating and thrilling to Him.
Notice how the depth of His love for her is so much deeper than her
love for Him. We need to meditate on these verses until they become
part of us—because they are the truth, and it is the truth that will set us
free and cast out all fear and uncertainty regarding our worth.
When we love Jesus to the best of our ability, it delights His heart—
because it is a grateful acknowledgment not only of what He has done,
but also of what He means to us.
Loving Him in response to His love is saying:
“Thank you, Father, for sending Your Son. Thank you, Father, that
because You so loved the world, You were willing to give us Your
all. Thank you, Father, that You loved us first, and as a response to
that love—which was poured out while we were still sinners—we can
return it back to You for Your praise and glory.”
