RADICAL LOVE
for sure that it is His kiss because of the way it penetrates our hearts
and impacts us.
In my final reference to the kiss, we can see how our walk with the
Lord moves from glory to glory and how the journey is a never-ending
upward spiral. Jeanne Guyon, in her commentary, describes it like this:
“What is this kiss?” It is complete spiritual union—a real, permanent,
and lasting experience of God’s nature. The kiss is the union of God’s
Spirit with your spirit.
There are two kinds of union with God. One is to feel a sense of His
presence for a few moments or hours. Deep and lasting union, however,
continues in the midst of any circumstances. It is a place where God
totally possesses your spirit. Barrenness and unfruitfulness are not
known in this area. The “kiss of His mouth” is nothing less than the
vital communication of the Word of God to you.
In the second part of verse 2, we see an exclamation from the
Shulamite, which says that she is drinking in these love caresses from
His lips because they are like the sweetest wine. Other translations say:
“For your love is better than wine.”
Did you know that when people receive love and affection from
another, it causes the brain to release the “feel-good” hormone oxytocin
into the bloodstream? This, in turn, boosts the immune system,
alleviates depression and anxiety, and fosters a sense of well-being.
