SESSION 2 : Song of Songs Chapter 1:1-2 (TPT)
And then finally, in verse 23: “Loving me empowers you to obey my
word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you
and make you our dwelling place.”
T
o summarise, then, it is evident from the above verses in John
that if we are to obey and be those who host and manifest the
presence of God, we need to love God. However, we also
know from 1 John 4:19 (NKJV): “We love Him because He first loved
us.”
This is why this book of the Bible is so important for us. It is God’s
love song to each one of us personally. It is a significant force for
receiving our own individual song from the Lord—and thereby
becoming equipped to give this love song back to Him and others in its
purest form.
The Christian's journey of love is not a linear path from A to B; it is a
cyclical one. It is God’s desire for each one of His children that we
move from glory to glory, going ever deeper into the heart of God.
Speaking from my own personal experience, I have been through this
book on several occasions. On the first read, I encountered scriptures—
such as those where the maiden is asked to take leaps of faith into the
unknown or join in the fellowship of His suffering—that made me feel
very uncomfortable and, to be totally honest, even fearful. I was honest
with the Lord about the way I felt and began to pray for Him to
strengthen me for what He required.
