SESSION 3 : Song of Songs Chapter 1:3-8 (NKJV)

8 “If you do not know [where your lover is], O you fairest among

women, Run along, follow the tracks of the flock, And pasture your
young goats By the tents of the shepherds.”

          T
here is so much intimacy in these verses, as the Shulamite
discovers how lovely her Beloved is. As we read, we can see

that she is becoming increasingly attracted to Him and desires
to know Him better. When we begin to bask in the loveliness and

presence of Jesus—with no agenda but to simply sit and rest in His

presence—we too begin to desire more. His name is like ointment
          poured out.

Ointment is used for the purpose of healing. Jesus can heal our deepest
hurts because His love and compassion reach into the innermost

recesses of our being, where pain and sorrow are washed away. This

speaks of the cross, where He was poured out for us. Isaiah 53 tells us
that He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was wounded for

our sins; He was bruised for all of our wicked ways. He was punished
so that we could have peace—and it is by His stripes that we are healed.

In The Passion Translation, His name is likened to “flowing oil,” of
which there is a never-ending supply. In other words, no matter where

you are, what you are doing, or what your situation demands, the

flowing oil of Jesus is readily available.

Go to the beginning of verse 3 again and notice how, in the New King

James Version, it says: “Because of the fragrance of your good
