SESSION 5 : Song of Songs 2:1-7 (NIV)
A further observation about this lily is that it is not like the potted lilies
or the ones we place in a vase—confined to their surroundings. No, we
were not created to remain static in our beautiful, safe, and comfortable
environments. We are born from above, with Jesus as our Head and
Leader. When He gives the command, we are to obey it—wherever it
may lead and whatever it may cost.
The text also says that this lily is of the valley, which conveys the sense
of it being hidden in the deep ravines. These ravines serve to remind us
of where we should be constantly dwelling and abiding—in the cleft of
the rock: Jesus.
We may appear ordinary to the outside world and to those whose eyes
cannot see, but we must never lose sight of the truth that the same Spirit
that raised Jesus Christ from the dead (Ephesians 1:20) lives in us. And
He that is in us is far greater than he that is in the world.
We are by no means ordinary—not because of anything we may have
to offer, but because of the One who dwells on the inside of us. We are
naturally supernatural beings, with the Lord of the whole earth living
in us and through us. He is Emmanuel, “God with us,” and can do
exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ever ask or imagine.
Do we live life governed by this mindset, or at the same expectation
level as the world? I believe this is the hour when the Spirit of the Lord
would have us press in for a greater measure of faith and power to
manifest within us.
