CHAPTER 8
T
he next day at school, there was an announcement that the
whole school was going on a two-day trip to the woods. It
was the first time I was ever going on a nature trip. In my
whole life, the only trips I’d ever had were… doctor’s appointments,
Grandma’s house visits, and New York—and that was just for my
Fabry disease surgery.
Mara, who was sitting beside me, was really happy, though.
“Going on a two-day trip to the woods? That’ll be so fun! I can’t
wait!” she said.
“How are you so happy? It’s just a trip. And besides, what’s so fun
about the woods?” I asked.
“Uh, a lot! One: the woods are technically in the forest, so we’re
actually going to a forest—and I’ve always wanted to go to the woods
because I love animals and nature! Two: it’s a two-day trip—two days!
Finally, no more school and no learning for two days!”
“Wow, I guess you really like the woods. Well, I don’t really think
I’ll like going.”
“Why?”
“In my whole life of going out, I’ve only gone to New York and
doctor’s appointments. It’s not much. Also, I don’t think going to the
woods is a good idea. I mean, isn’t it full of wild animals?”
