CHAPTER 19

fter I finished talking to my friends, I went to my parents,
hoping I had won the deal.
“So…” I started.
My mom smiled. “You did awesome up there, Shauna. I wasn’t
expecting it.”
“Yeah, who knew my daughter was this good at comedy? And that
dad joke—totally on point!” Dad added, clearly shocked.
“Mom, Dad, I was always good at something, but you kept
thinking of me as a weird, unsmart kid who does stupid things. You
didn’t know, realize, or understand my life well. Comedy has always
been in my life, even until now.” I felt a relief in my heart as I said that.
“Oh my, Shauna,” Mom hugged and cuddled me like a baby.
“We’re so sorry we didn’t notice this before. If I were a good mother,
then I would’ve supported you.”
“Don’t worry, Mom. No matter what choices you make for me, I
will always think of you as a good mother. I understand you’re just
trying to do what's best for my life.” I smiled as hard as I could to please
them.
Suddenly, Mom got an email. She checked her phone, and it was a
text from my teacher, Mrs. Stanley. Uh—oh. Was it about the test? Did
I pass or did I fail?
