CHAPTER 8

          I
was trying to find a table in the cafeteria when Marla waved at

               me to come.
“Where have you been?” she asked, moving aside for me to sit.

“I was busy talking to Travis,” I said, sitting down.
               “Travis?” she uttered.

“Yeah, you know, the new kid, the one you kept staring at the—”

“Shh!” She put her hand on my mouth. “You don’t have to say it,
          I know.”

“Okay…” I couldn’t believe my best friend was falling in love
with a new guy she’d never even seen or talked to in her whole life.

“So,” she turned to me with a smoothie in her hand, “what were

you two chatting about in class?”
I shrugged. “Nothing. We were just doing a project, and he kept

          making random jokes.”
               “Were they funny?”

“Um… yeah? Okay, why these types of questions?”
“Oh, nothing. Just wanna know more about this Travis guy.”

“Oh, really? Well, Marla, if you really like this guy, you should

just talk to him, because I know you do like him. Maybe at the end of
school, you should try saying hi to him.”

Marla made a confused face and said, “What are you talking
about? You think I like him?”
