daughter, never to return. After all this, she ended up
          having a son for him.

It was all downhill from here. I call it the forgotten
years. My baby girl and I were happier together. My son

suggested we buy a condo together, which I thought was

a good idea. The problem was that I had no money. But
somehow, we did—because by this time, I had landed a

good job with Tribar Industries, where I worked for

seventeen years. When I said “good job”, I was paid ten
dollars an hour (you know, they really valued their

          employees back then).

          A New Chapter

After my separation, I realized I needed a car. Learning
to drive was a challenge filled with many difficult

experiences, but even after I had mastered it, owning a

car seemed impossible—I had no credit history. My
husband had never allowed me to cosign for anything,

so when his credit collapsed, he was left to deal with it
          alone.
