RADICAL LOVE
Finally, we also read in verse 13 that “the love apples are in bloom.”
Back in chapter 2, verse 3, the Bridegroom-King was likened to the
apple tree, and we now see that this tree has produced apple blossom—
which is us, His loving Bride-to-be! We are being transformed into the
fruit of His labours, to become fully formed and filled with His love.
His DNA—His seed—is within us!
It then says there are “the rarest of fruits to be found at our doors—the
new as well as the old.” What I believe is being said here is that if we
sit at Jesus’ feet and allow Him to tenderise our hearts, we will grow in
the fullness of His love. This will take place naturally as He reinforces,
in greater depth, foundational truths such as the completed work of the
Cross, God’s grace to us, the revelation of what it really means to live
in the shalom of God, and as He reveals new mysteries and fresh
revelations from His Word—truths that have remained hidden but are
now relevant and necessary for the season we are in (such as the
mystery of the Bride and the Bridegroom).
The last sentence is very poignant, as the Shulamite says that she has
stored these fruits for her Bridegroom King. Everything that she is and
holds within her is turned first and foremost toward Him—and for His
glory alone.
