RADICAL LOVE
Out of love for her Beloved, she will turn the other cheek when
misunderstood and rejected. Out of love for her Beloved, she will
choose to put the needs of others before herself. Out of love for her
Beloved, she will be willing to minister to whoever the Lord brings
across her path—with patience and gentleness. She will be a friend and
helper of the marginalized, the unloved, and the rejected of society.
And through these actions, they will see the love she has for Christ on
display.
The agape love of Christ is a supernatural, unconditional, and
transformational love, which He is ready to pour out into the hearts of
those who will give Him their time and permission. It is what the world
needs; it is what creation is groaning for.
The Shulamite has surrendered to the desires of her Beloved
Bridegroom-King and now displays this love in the way she deals with
people. She does not seek to covet glory that belongs to Him alone but
lives totally for and unto Him—as a thank offering for all He has done.
As we continue with the text in verse 13, we see that this sacrificial
love is bursting forth from within her as she joins her Beloved as a co-
labourer in His harvest fields. Although the Passion Translation uses
the term “love apples,” other translations use the term “mandrakes.”
These little fruits are very interesting indeed. They contain fifty-five
odoriferous constituents and were thought to have aphrodisiac
qualities. We can learn spiritually from this analogy. It says that these
