gotten pregnant himself. More laughter. Trash countered that
perhaps he couldn’t figure out how to get his DVD player to
stop blinking 12:00. Steve suggested he couldn’t find his
remote and couldn’t work the TV without it. They had been
sprinkling their conversations with these possibilities for over
an hour when Tommy actually arrived. Tommy was nonplussed
by their banter and sunk despairingly into an old chair, leaving
a small cloud of dust.
“Okay, we give up.” Said Steve as he handed Tommy a beer.
“Tell us what is going on.”
Tommy sat and reflected for a moment. Started unsuccessfully
to speak a few times, then told them of his nemesis, the
promotion, the object and the secret service. Steve laughed.
“How could you know their presence had anything to do with
the object?” He asked. “I think you are paranoid. You have
been watching too many cop shows.”
“Let me see it.” Trash held out his hand, took the object from
Tommy, who was greatly relieved to be rid of it and so ended
the ‘Time of Oedipus on Steroids’.
Now came the universal climax of all climaxes, literally. The
next few days changed the course of history for a few people
from Maine, two of the world’s most notable spies, the United
States of America, Earth, and, of course, the rest of the
