fresh hops indeed made the beer better! His own brews were
legendary. He preferred to make a triple stout as it went
further. Often the alcohol content topped 20%. Nobody would
be a pig and want four glasses of that.
Microbrews were second on the list for the same reason, more
effects from the hops. He had a soft-spot for Newcastle Pale
Ale and Fischer Biere d' Alsace. Trash was also intellectually
honest, but where Steve was courageous Trash was downright
fierce. He was less forgiving of others and their lack of
discipline. He would push them to the edge of their comfort
zone, often beyond, to make them aware that it was they who
were untrustworthy and irresponsible, not him. This would
rarely endear him to others, especially if he was right. Their
intellects appreciated one another. But, something more was
going on. Their intellects could see it, but not explain it. All
they knew was that it was great fun.
The two of them spoke a secret language of looks and nuances
of speech such that they could understand one another without
actually speaking normal sentences. It was as if they could
spontaneously develop any number of secret languages to
send information back and forth which nobody else would
notice. They were more than trouble.
A perfect example of their strange connection happened one
Wednesday. Steve had made a business trip to the town next
to where Trash lived. He had expected to make a very long day
