International Association of Auto Theft Investigators
Auto Theft Prevention Authorities Committee
Call to Order
Chairperson Reg Phillips called the meeting to order at 11:05 AM (EST).
Introductions
Each person introduced themselves to the attendance record.
Reg Phillips asked the participants for their opinion about the meeting being recorded for ease
of minute taking. He told the group all would need to agree. There was no opposition to
record the meeting, therefore the meeting will be recorded.
Agenda Changes: Michele Lanham has a conflict with another meeting so her CISION
presentation will be first.
Public Media Outreach - Michelle Lanham, IAATI Public Information/Media Committee Chair
Ms. Lanham thanked the group for their attention, she was joined by Daniel Biggar from
CISION; who is available to answer any questions or give insight about CISION.
Historically, IAATI has been working to acquire a CISION subscription for the past two years for
basic press release distribution in a uniform way. Currently, IAATI doesn’t have a way to
distribute press releases internationally with a cohesive message; one mission-one message it is
done differently by chapters. During this period the annual cost of $6,500 - $8,000 has been an
obstacle. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CISION has offered a lower cost of $9,000 for a
three-year commitment ($3K per year) for the basic package that will reach traditional and
social media outlets with a controlled message. A copy of the IAATI/CISION proposal will be
made available to this group.
Daniel Biggar is on this call to answer any questions about the capabilities of the CISION
program and to show the participants how the tool works.
Ms. Lanham went on to state that she learned from Robert Force ( Co-chair of IAATI Public
Information/Media Committee) and Reg Phillips of the possibility the ATPAs would be willing to
consider participation financially in the subscription. Reg asked if the ATPAs would have access
to the CISION tool to push their messages out. Michelle responded affirmatively that would be
the case; however; she and Director Force would draft a CISION Use/Media Policy for the ATPAs
to follow. Basically, each committee and each ATPA would have one media relations person
designated to use CISION. However, with the proposed subscription, there is only one user
license, which means only one person could be using the tool at a time. Mr. Biggar interjected
that CISION could distribute to 5-10 additional user log-ins, but only one could be active at a
time. If you want more that one user at a time that license would cost $500 per year per user.
It depends on what will work for the strategy.
