The Center for Freedom at Fort Monroe
DRAFT - Mission, Vision, & Values
Our Mission
The Center for Freedom at Fort Monroe works in and with networks, associations, and educators, in
Hampton Roads and beyond, to share the history of the past, address present difficulties, and help
discover pathways to ending and rising above all division and separation dependent on differences.
Our Vision
We envision a world where individuals sincerely connect to their history to live more aware in the
present, where the imbalances of the past never again direct the potential outcomes of things to come.
We envision a world where the humane treatment is the norm, where equality of and access to
opportunity are available and valued by all; where healing and reconciliation are commonplace and
social justice is typical and social equity is maintained and regarded.
We recognize that it is not sufficient for us to be intentional, but we should be purposeful in making this
vision a reality—for Hampton Roads and beyond.
