At this time, we have not yet developed an interview script. In connecting with the Center for Freedom,
the logical connection would be to address in the oral history interview how being in, or working for the
military supports the notion of freedom. I worry that the interviewee might only think to address political
freedom, so we might want to discuss some ways to get them to think outside that box (i.e., utilize
questions such as 'What did it mean to you to serve at "Freedom's Fortress"?').
                       NEXT STEPS:

                       • Develop a strategy that explains how these oral histories connect directly to the Center for
                          Freedom at Fort Monroe.
                       • Listen to and transcribe existing oral histories
                       • Time Projection: Without assistance, foot pedal, or transcription software, Chelsea
estimates that this might take up to another month to copy everything, given her current
                          workload.
                       • Develop a work plan for collecting new oral histories
                       • Research possible partnerships
                       • Story Corps
                       • Veterans Oral History Project

TEACHER AND STUDENT RESOURCES AND PROGRAMS (Amber Inwood/

               Aaron Firth)
With the arrival of the new Educator, Amber Inwood, plans are quickly coming into fruition. Recent
conversations have created a collective understanding of the challenges associated with the idea of
merely extending the current program to Newport News Schools. Amber will be articulating those
challenges on Monday, February 24. However, we have found opportunities to build a sustainable
relationship with NNPS and offer some robust deliverables this year.

                       NEXT STEPS:

                       • Meet with Pat Finneran. Planning to meet with Pat Finneran, NNPS Government Liaison, on
February 28 at Fort Monroe. To be confirmed on Monday, February 24.
                                                                       th
                       • Coordinate the "Think-Tank" meeting. Seek 5-8 4 grade NNPS teachers to attend a "think-
                          tank" meeting.
o Orientation to Fort Monroe and resources
