NCF Monthly Report – February 15 (submitted on February 21)

As we move forward with collecting further oral histories, Chelsea would like to investigate purchasing
Express Scribe Pro transcription software. There is a free version available for download, but considering
the limitations of our technical services and the potential quantity of oral histories in the future, the Pro
version may better suit our needs.
Information on the 12 current oral histories:

Faces of Fort Monroe. Fort Monroe staff has created a form to capture information on military service
members, civilians, and dependents who lived, worked, or served on Fort Monroe while it was an active
military installation. This data gathering emerged out of a need to address research requests involving
genealogy and military service. Because there are not personnel records on Fort Monroe, staff wanted to
create a 'database' to keep information on people affiliated with Fort Monroe. Staff also saw the potential
to use this information to develop new and innovative programs at the Casemate Museum. As such, we
included a section on the form where individuals could check a box if they were interested in being
interviewed about their time at Fort Monroe. To date, the museums have received 16 forms. The following
people have expressed an interest in being interviewed about their experiences at Fort Monroe:
