• Elevated 2-hour post-prandial test.
Nursing Intervention for Gestational Diabetes
Controlling serum glucose:
• Dietary adjustment.
• Accurate self-glucose monitoring and record keeping.
• Self-injection with insulin. Prevention, recognizing, and treating
insulin reactions and ketonuria .
Dietary adjustment:
• In early pregnancy and daily requirement 30-35 Kcal/kg.
• This food is divided among 3 meats and 3 snacks:
o 25% of calories are taken at breakfast.
o 30% at lunch.
o 30% at dinner.
o 15% divided among snacks.
• Counseling about diet should be based on:
o Hour of rising and of retiring, insulin.
o Eating pattern.
o Usual activities.
o Food budget.
Educate the patient regarding self-care measures:
Activity and exercise:
• The woman’s blood glucose should be well controlled before she
begins any exercise.
