Every diabetic patient should always carry a diabetic identification
card so that her condition will be made known quickly in the event
of a reaction.
Sources of assistance:
• The patient and family are made aware of the available sources of
help and information.
• Glycemic control can be evaluated using self-monitoring of
glucose.
• Encourage client to visit a diabetic clinic regularly. This will help
the client to:
• Identify potential problems.
• Measure the person’s self- management skills .
Evaluation outcome:
• Woman will be able to describe her prescribed diet.
• Woman will be able to explain her insulin dosage routine.
• Woman will be able to identify signs of hypo or hyperglycemia and
describe appropriate interventions if it occurs.
• Woman will be able to discuss appropriate self- care measures to
avoid occurrence of infection.
During Labor
• Provide information about:
o Possible changes to expect during labor and delivery.
o IV insulin.
