Menstrual Disorders

- Oligomenorrhea: it means decrease the number of menstrual cycle/

years.

- Polymenorrhea: it means increase the number of menstrual cycle/ years.

- Menorrhgia: it means increase the amount of menstrual blood.

-Menostaxis: it means prolonged menstrual bleeding which may reach 10

days.

- Hypomenorrhea: it means decrease in the amount of menstrual blood

and duration of menstrual period which may reach 2days or less.

- Metrostaxis: it means bleeding which occurs independent of menstrual

cycle.

Polymenorrhea: It is frequent menstruation. The menstrual cycle is less

than 21 days.

Causes: due to short proliferative or a short secretory phase. This result

from premature maturation of the graafian follicle.

Also result from

- Ovarian Congestion as a part of pelvic congestion as in case of

fibroid, retroversion, chronic pelvic infection.

- Hypothyroidism.

- Dysfunctional polymenorrhea occurring shortly after menarche,

near the menopause, after abortion or labor.
