Rationale

The district is interested in the following:

                  • Increasing the academic performance of 9 grade students in math, specifically in Algebra I,
                                                              th
                      Geometry and Algebra II.
                  • Increasing the number of freshmen on track to graduate.
                  • Seeking a solution to the problem of students being in double dose classes.
                  • Freeing up freshmen schedules to provide room for more electives and to meet the new
graduation requirements for the Class of 2020.
                  • Aligning instructional practices with best practices and other national models

on the College Board Suite of Assessments Spring Assessment by increasing student math
fluency, conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts, and the ability to apply
                      knowledge towards solving problems.

               Duration

The pilot will last for two years.

               Control Group

Students with similar math scores will be placed in a section of Pre-AP Algebra I and Math
Foundations. The number of control groups will be determined based on student placement data.

               Treatment Group

The treatment group will have the students with the identified cut scores. The number of treatment
groups will be determined based on student placement data.
