❖ Mr. Lewis Thawalawatta took the lead in starting this school. The teachers
were his two daughters. The Henapita thero has also taken the initiative in

teaching. The school started with 18 children. The name of the school was
"Akuru Shalawa". Four classes have been maintained namely Kindergarten,
Second Class, Third Class, and Senior Class. Classes have been held in
morning, evening, and night time slots. This school, which was originally
known as Akuru Hall, has been changed to "Jubili Vidyalaya" over time.

There was a library and a reading room in this school. There was also a school
magazine called "Sukhopadesa" prepared by the students of the school. Let's
look at the books in the reading room and some written documents where the

names of the students who used the books are mentioned.
