But as a new nonprofit, your time and resources are likely limited. Think
through what’s reasonable for you, and choose a small selection of
activities that complement each other and feel doable. Keep your
fundraising and marketing costs in mind; an email marketing campaign, for
example, will cost much less than direct mail or a fundraising gala.
If you’re a great writer, for example, maybe you’ll gravitate toward grant
writing and fundraising appeals. More of a penchant for throwing budget-
conscious events? Network with your community, and see if you can put
together some gatherings or fundraising salons.
Don’t forget to factor in donor stewardship. It takes time, attention, and
care to turn people into donors and long-term supporters of your
organization. Any fundraising activity will require some measure of this.
