Page 74 - Shaping A Sustainable Future
P. 74
From the evaluation table, we narrowed the environmental review to focus on several key aspects. Based on
this selection, we then started to collect data on the number of air-conditioning units and their settings at the
company. We estimated power consumption either by using the readings from the energy meter or deriving relevant
information from the specification of the compressor unit. We also collected data on the number of hours the air-
conditioning units were operating. Data on air-conditioning use and power consumption is shown in Table 3.
Production Floor (Level 1) Units Operating Temperature Power Consumption Operating Hours
o
Window air-conditioning unit 5 16 C 1.1 kW 11 h / day

Table 3: Air Conditioning usage, operating hours and typical power consumption
From the information in Table 3, we calculated the annual power consumption to be 71,520 kWh. Details are given
in Table 4.
Air-conditioning Unit Power Consumption / day Annual power Consumption
(based on 250 working days per annum)
Window air-conditioning unit (5 units) 60.5 kWh 15,125 kWh
Room air-conditioning unit (12 units) 178.2 kWh 44,550 kWh
Portable air-conditioning unit (2 units) 28.68 kWh 7,170 kWh
Indoor air-conditioning unit (2 units) 18.7 kWh 4,675 kWh
Total: 286.08 kWh 71,520 kWh
