SAFEGUARDING OUR ENVIRONMENT

                                    ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY (LOCAL)

            • HSBC NYAA ITE SME Sustainability Phase 2
                Initiative
The HSBC NYAA ITE SME Sustainability Project Phase
2 was completed in August 2023. NYAA Climate
Change Advisor Prof Jeff Obbard and the NYAA team
will study the project outcomes and carbon emission
reduction results from the 20 participating SMEs.

The project results will be announced in April 2024,
coinciding with the launch of Phase 3, which will
            involve 40 SMEs.

            • NYAA ITE FairPrice Reducing Carbon Project
Representatives from HSBC, NTUC, ITE, and
NYAA attended a meeting to discuss the winning
sustainability project from ITE College East. The
            project demonstrated simplicity and effectiveness,
making it scalable nationally. NYAA is committed
to presenting an implementation plan for NTUC
            FairPrice’s consideration.

            • ITE Ice Project @ Senja Hawker Centre
The ITE Ice Cube Project, developed by students from
ITE College East, focused on reducing ice usage at drink
stalls during peak hours at hawker centres. Students
visiting the Senja Hawker Centre educated customers
on the environmental benefits of requesting less or
no ice in their drinks. Scientific testing showed that
the temperature remained consistent regardless of
ice quantity. Significant energy and water savings
were achieved by minimising ice usage, contributing
to carbon emission reduction and fostering a mindset
shift among food court patrons towards climate
            action in their daily lives.

            • World Environment Day 2023
World Environment Day, the most significant
            international environmental day, engaged millions
worldwide. The SEAYEN Youth Representatives from
ten ASEAN member nations, coordinated by NYAA
Singapore, supported World Environment Day 2023.
The theme, #BeatPlasticPollution, focused on seeking
solutions to plastic pollution and addressing the
            plastic crisis in Southeast Asia.
