Film Together – Smartphone Filmmaking Project
In partnership with the High Commission of Canada,
the NYAA organised the first-ever Smartphone
Filmmaking Competition in Singapore. The NYAA
received more than 100 short films from secondary
schools, junior colleges, ITE, polytechnics, and
universities. The theme of the competition was
“Diversity and Inclusion”.
ITE College Central’s submission “Race for Inclusion”
won the Best Overall Film. Their film was about a
student with low self-esteem and a victim of bullying.
CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) ‘s film “Find” won the
Best Use of Theme, was about an international
student who found herself without friends and her
daily struggle to cope with her studies. ITE East won
the Best Creative Entry with “In My Control”, which
depicted a personal battle of a girl with a physical
disability. With determination and perseverance,
she overcame her disability and led an everyday life.
These films showed how students coped with mental
issues that prompted the NYAA to look seriously into
the mental wellness programmes for students and
young people.
