Wood Used for Base Support
Wooden planks are affixed to the base of completed refrigeration units to serve as support during transportation, as shown in
Figure 3. These planks rest on the forks of forklift trucks, providing stability and damping capacity to ensure secure transport.
Figure 3: Transportation of Finished Refrigeration Unit.
Wood possesses excellent damping capacity, contributing to stability during transportation. However, after usage, the
wooden planks are disposed of by customers rather than recovered. The annual carbon emission for this practice (shown in
Table 2) = 135000 kg x 1.8 kgCO2/kg = 243,000 kgCO2
Waste Water from Brazing
Copper pipes undergo permanent joining through brazing Tap water is continuously flushed through the pipes during
for metal joining (Figure 4). This process involves the brazing to safeguard the electronic devices. However, the
application of heat to the filler, causing it to melt and flow water utilised in this process becomes contaminated with
into the joint, creating a durable bond. Electronic devices are solid particles, including copper residues. Consequently, the
integrated into the copper pipes, necessitating protective contaminated water undergoes treatment in a sedimentation
measures during brazing to shield them from heat-induced tank, as shown in Figure 5, to eliminate solid particles before
damage. Figure 4 shows the brazing process. disposal.
