Project Description: A new emergency homeless shelter is in the works in Nashua, where NSKS is looking
to transform the former Sacred Heart school building on Spring Street into a place for individuals and
families. Construction will turn old classrooms into living space, including 91 beds, with separate space
for men, women, and families and those with long‐term housing needs. The building has not been used
as classroom space in four decades. The NSKS leases the 20,000‐square‐foot building built in 1893 for $1
per year from the Diocese of Manchester. Michael Reinke from the NSKS said there will also be learning
spaces for people to get certified in different fields, play areas for children, and a community garden
outside. “This is incredible,” Reinke said. “This is going to change the way we provide emergency shelter
for single adults and families.”
