Chimney & Flues
• Metal flues must be located on the last visible roof plane (usually the rear
of the townhouse).
• Metal flues must be no higher than the minimum Fairfax County code
requirements.
• Metal flutes be no wider than 14 inches in diameter.
• Metal flues be equipped with spark arrestors that are unadorned in
painted black or the color of the proof in the flat finish paint.
• Must be installed so that flues remain straight in plumb without external
braces.
• Chimneys must be located on the back wall or side wall for a townhouse
in unit.
• Chimneys must be finished to match the existing surface of the
townhouse.
• Chimneys must be no wider than 6 feet.
• Chimneys must extend no further than two feet from the wall.
• Chimneys must be equipped with spark arrestors (Chimney caps) that are
unadorned in painted black or the color of the roof in a flat finish paint
or left unpainted if made of aluminum.
