                   This sliding knot is one of the most common meth-
                   ods for adjusting guylines on tents. The tautline hitch
                   is a variation of a clove hitch with a few extra turns
                   around  the  standing  part  of  the  line  for  additional
                   grip. The more turns you add, the more grip the hitch
                   offers, though it also becomes harder to slide.






                    1. start by passing the
                    line around the anchor
                    point. Then make three
                    or four turns around the
                    standing part of the line
                    back toward the anchor.












                     2. Bring the working
                     end forward and make a
                     half hitch ahead of the
                     first turn.
