This knot is so simple and so effective, you may won-
der why people even bother with metal or plastic line
tighteners. The guyline hitch can even be backed up
with an overhand knot in the working end to prevent
it from being loosened too far.

                                             1. Tie two overhand
                                             knots about 3 inches
apart and roughly 3 or 4
                                             feet from the end. Pass
                                             the working end around
                                             the tent stake and back
                                             through both knots
                                             from the front.

                                            2. shorten the length
                                            of the loop by holding
                                            the first knot and pull-
                                            ing on the working end.
                                            Lengthen the loop by
                                            holding the second knot
                                            and pulling on the loop
                                            from the front.
