My Planet Earth

Tiara Mukherjee, Grade 2

My name is Tiara Mukherjee, I am 6 years old and I am in grade 1 at Olentangy Meadows
Elementary School. I like to study about the outer space and planets. On my 6th birthday I got a
globe and a book about the Solar System.
Solar system has 8 planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
My favorite planet is Earth. The Earth is the third planet of the solar system and it comes between
Venus and Mars. Earth is the only planet where 74% liquid or frozen water exists on the surface
because of it Earth is also called ‘Blue planet’. Earth is the only planet in the solar system that has
life. Earth is not too hot like Venus and not too cold like Neptune. The temperature is just right for
life to survive. The Earth is surrounded by a blanket of gases that protects it from the Sun. It has 21%
oxygen gas in the air for life. The atmosphere is mostly nitrogen gas about 78%. Earth is home to
millions of species of plants and animals.
Earth and the other 7 planets revolve around the sun on their orbits. It takes 365 days for Earth to
complete 1 orbit. Most of the places on Earth experience four seasons, caused by the Earth’s
rotation and tilt. As the earth orbits around the Sun it tuns on its axis, rotating right round in 24
hours. The side of the Earth that faces the Sun has daytime and the side of the Earth that is turned
away from the Sun has nighttime.
Earth is the only inner planet (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) to have one large satellite called Moon.
Mercury and Venus have none. Mars has two very tiny satellite.

Why I like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Ashwina Biswas , Grade 2

I like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because he was brave and never got scared to give speeches. He was
also nice and stopped bad laws. That is why I chose to write about him.
Dr. King saw signs that said stuff like no one can go shopping with white people. He saw those things
when he was little, so he decided to be someone who tells people about good things. When he grew
up, he was just exactly what he wanted to be. On the day he died, the people who liked him decided
that on his birthday, it would be called Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. That day would be January
15th, since that was his birthday. Dr. King gave speeches and told people out loud that the bad laws
are done. Dr. King did not like the bad laws. After all those speeches, good laws were made. Did you
know that he spoke to more than 200 people??
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a big hero to other people. He did a lot of great things. He made sure
the bad laws were done and made good laws. This is why I like him.
