Sound doctrine is crucial in trying to
determine whether or not a professing
Christian is genuine. Jesus said in John 10:27,
“My sheep hear my voice”—through the
sound teaching of God’s Word—“and I know
them, and they follow me,” and in verse 5
Jesus said, “And a stranger will they not
follow, but will flee from him: for they know
not the voice of strangers.” The “voice of
strangers” represents false teachers and the
unsound doctrine that they teach, and 2
Timothy 4:3 warns us that the time will come
when people will not endure sound doctrine.
