breast saying, “God be merciful to me a

sinner.” Jesus said, “for every one that

exalteth himself shall be abased; and he

that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

The Pharisee saw no need for God’s mercy

because he did not perceive himself to be a

sinner. But Romans 3:23 says, “For all have

sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Possibly one of the reasons that God

referred to David as a man after his own

               heart is because David continually

               acknowledged God’s holiness and he

acknowledged his continual need of God’s

mercy. Oh that all men, like David, would

praise the LORD for his goodness and for his

wonderful works to the children of men —

the most wonderful work being forgiveness

of sins offered in God’s mercy through our

               Lord Jesus Christ.
